Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a complex and multifactorial disease difficult to replicate both in vitro or in silico. The use of Zebrafish in vivo models of chemically-induced enterocolitis can resolve this limitation and constitute a useful/cheap tool to screen for bioactive drugs that modulate acute inflammation.

Molecular analysis

Analysis of the expression levels of different genes that regulate intestinal physiology.

  • Expression levels of pro-inflammatory, proliferation and differentiation markers

Histological analysis

The inflammatory status alters the intestinal structure. Analysis at the histological level provides information on the clinicopathological features of the disease, pathological mechanisms and treatment evaluation.

  • Neutrophil and macrophage infiltration
  • Intestinal histology:
    1. Study of differentiated cell types
    2. Mucus production
    3. Intestinal folds
